Wasantha Vithanage stands as one of the most respected and influential figures in Sri Lankan boxing, with a career dedicated to elevating the sport both locally and internationally. A highly qualified and internationally recognized coach, he has played a vital role in shaping the nation's boxing landscape for several decades. A distinguished Three-Star AIBA/IBA Certified Boxing Coach, Vithanage has consistently demonstrated technical mastery, professionalism, and a deep commitment to nurturing athletes. His expertise reached global prominence when he served as the Coach of the Sri Lankan Boxing Team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, one of the most prestigious milestones in his illustrious career. During this period, he trained Olympian Anuruddha Ratnayake, the only Sri Lankan boxer to represent the country at the 2008 Games-an achievement that remains a proud moment in Sri Lanka's sporting history.

Beyond coaching, Vithanage is a respected figure in international boxing administration. He serves as an International Technical Officer (ITO) for the International Boxing Association (IBA), contributing his knowledge and experience to ensure the highest standards in global competitions.

At home, he has held several key leadership positions that helped shape the future of the sport. He is a former Vice President of the Sri Lanka Boxing Association and former Chairman of the Referees & Judges Commission, where he worked tirelessly to uphold integrity, fairness, and professionalism within the domestic boxing arena. Wasantha Vithanage also dedicated many years as a national boxing coach, during which he mentored and developed numerous top-tier Sri Lankan boxers. His guidance, discipline, and passion have inspired generations of athletes, coaches, and officials.
