SSP (Rtd) Rohana Ajith Gunarathne
SSP (Rtd) Rohana Ajith Gunarathne received his primary and secondary education at St. Sylvester's College, Kandy, where he served as a School Prefect and Captain of the College Boxing Team (1982-1983). A gifted boxer, he won multiple titles at tournaments conducted by the Amateur Boxing Association (ABA), including the Junior Nationals (Robinson Memorial Cup), Novices (Wormsly Fonseka Memorial Cup), Intermediate (Danton Obsekara Cup), and National Championship (William Menin Cup). His achievements earned him the L. V. Jayaweera Memorial Award, T. B. Jayah Memorial Award, and recognition as Best Loser in the Laten Cup. He proudly represented Sri Lanka at the 1985 SAFF Games, a highlight of his boxing career.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) from the University of Kelaniya, strengthening his academic and professional foundation.
Joining the Sri Lanka Police in 1986 as a Sub-Inspector, he served with distinction for 37 years, retiring in 2023 as a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) He served as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) at several stations including Moratumulla, Weligamuwa, Ganemulla, Werangula, Gokarella, Kadawatha, and Kelaniya, where he was known for fairness, discipline, and commitment to public service. As SSP Kilinochchi Division, he led operations with integrity and professionalism, earning the respect of both officers and civilians. His participation in numerous local and international training programmes further enriched his expertise in leadership and law enforcement
After retirement, he continued serving the nation as Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety. He currently functions as an Inquiry Officer at the Ministry of Public Administration, upholding the values of justice and integrity that defined his lifelong career.
