Warrant Officer (Rtd) Mohamed Niyaz stands among Sri Lanka's most respected boxers a symbol of grit, discipline, and dedication both in the ring and in service.

Early Years

Niyaz began boxing at St. Michael's College, Polwatte, showing great promise as a young fighter. Between 1965 and 1978, he competed in the Stubbs Shield Championships, helping his school finish as runners-up and establishing his early reputation.

National Achievements

In 1970, Niyaz won the ABA Junior National Championship, and in 1972, he achieved a rare double by winning both the ABA National and Intermediate Championships. His technical mastery and determination made him one of the country's finest featherweight boxers.

Military and Defence Glory

Representing the Sri Lanka Artillery, Niyaz dominated the Army Boxing Championships from 1972 to 1976, while also leading his regiment to several top finishes in the Defence Services Championships. He was the ABA National Runners-up and Layton Cup Runners-up in 1974, proving his consistency at the highest level.
