His dominance extended to the national school boxing arena, where he twice finished Runners-up at the Stubbs Shield Championship and earned Runners-up honors at the Francis Jayawardena Memorial Cup, bringing immense pride to St. Sylvester's College.

Between 1977 and 1981, Jayaweera led the College Boxing Team as Captain, guiding his teammates with unmatched leadership and passion.
