Boxing Biography of Legendary Veteran

R.K. Indrasena began his boxing career at Zahira College after studying at Cary College. His early success included winning the 1st Francis Jayawardena Boxing Meet at the YMCA, Colombo, and several national titles in 1974 such as the ABA Novices, Intermediate, and Albert Perera Memorial Boxing Meets. Joining the Sri Lanka Army, he became the Best Boxer at the Defence Services Championship (1980) and went on to represent Sri Lanka at international meets in India (1983-1984). Indrasena later secured major national honors including the National Championship, Clifford Cup, and Layton Cup.

Transitioning into coaching after becoming National Champion in 1984, he led the Army Boxing Team to a record 14 consecutive years of victories, earning the Muthiah Servir Trophy multiple times. His exceptional coaching led to his appointment as National Boxing Coach of Sri Lanka, representing the country at the Commonwealth Games (Canada 1994), Asian Games, and World Championships.

In 2007, his trainee Anuruddha Ratnayake qualified for the Olympics-the first Sri Lankan boxer to do so in 40 years. Although Indrasena was denied the Olympic coaching role due to politics, his contributions remained immense, Recognized internationally, the international Boxing Association (IBA) sponsored him for the Coaches' Instructor Course in Italy, and he later. qualified as an International Referee, Judge, and Technical Official (ITO).

Currently, R.K. Indrasena serves as the President of the Boxing Referees and Judges Association of Sri Lanka, continuing his lifelong dedication to the sport. His journey reflects excellence, resilience, and unwavering commitment to Sri Lankan boxing.
