Tribute to M. U. Perera (1945-2024)

The Ceylon Boxing Federation pays tribute to Mr. M. U. Perera, a respected boxing official, educator, and sportsman whose dedicated service left a lasting impact on Sri Lanka's boxing community.

Mr. Perera began his journey in the sport as a Sylvester College boxer in 1960, demonstrating both passion and promise at a young age. His lifelong commitment to boxing continued across several decades, culminating in his achievement as a National Referee and Judge in 1999, where he contributed significantly to upholding the integrity and standards of the sport. He played a pivotal role in the development of school-level boxing in Sri Lanka, serving as the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association from 1994 to 1995. His leadership helped strengthen the youth boxing framework during a crucial period of growth.

Mr. Perera was also the first Boxing Coach at Pilimatalawa Central College (1988-1995), where he mentored and shaped many promising young athletes. His ability to inspire, guide, and instill discipline remains one of his most enduring legacies.
Beyond boxing, Mr. Perera was an accomplished educationist, having served as an English Teacher and Lecturer at the College of Education, influencing countless students through his commitment to learning and excellence. His discipline extended into martial arts as well he was a veteran Karate black belt, well respected for his skill and dedication
