A.I.H. Senaratne
R. L. Senaratne of St. Sylvester's College, Kandy emerged as one of the most talented boxers to represent the school during the early 1980s. Known for his sharp technique, discipline, and fearless approach inside the ring, Senaratne made a lasting mark in both school and national boxing arenas.
His journey reached an early peak in 1982, when he won the T. B. Jayah Memorial Boxing Meet and also helped St. Sylvester's secure victory at the Stubbs Shield the same year. Continuing his excellent form, he contributed to the team's runner-up finish in the Stubbs Shield 1983, proving his consistency and leadership. In recognition of his leadership and skill, Senaratne served as Vice-Captain of St. Sylvester's Boxing Team, guiding and motivating younger boxers while maintaining top personal performance.
Senaratne's success extended beyond school boxing. In 1985, he triumphed at the National Novices Boxing Championships, earning national recognition, and capped the year by winning the Layton Cup, solidifying his status as one of the most promising boxers of his time. A.I.H. Senaratne's achievements continue to inspire young Sylvestrians to pursue excellence both in and out of the ring.
