A True Champion of Sri Lankan Boxing

H. S. Caldera stands tall among Sri Lanka's boxing greats-celebrated for his exceptional career as both a fighter and an international referee and judge. His boxing journey began in 1973 under Coach Mr. Wolsey Fonseka representing Zahira Boxing Club. From the start, Caldera's discipline, power, and technical mastery made him a formidable presence in the ring.

Between 1976 and 1981, he reigned as National Champion, showcasing unmatched consistency and skill. His crowning moment carne in 1979, when he was named Best Boxer at the National Championship, a title he retained through 1979-1981 Caldera's dominance extended to the Layton Cup, where he won multiple titles and earned the Best Boxer Award in 1981. That same year, he also captured the Best Boxer title at the Clifford Cup Championship Internationally, he brought glory to Sri Lanka by winning a bronze medal at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok and representing the country at the 1980 Asian Championships in Bombay

Following his retirement, Caldera continued to serve the sport as a Referee and Judge, recognized by AIBA in 2002 and later earning his AIBA 1-Star certification in 2011. He officiated at prestigious events including the Green Hill Cup (Karachi), 2005 Senior Asian Championship (Vietnam), and 2009 European Championship (Istanbul). H. S. Caldera’s legacy is one of excellence, integrity, and lifelong dedication a true inspiration to all Sri Lankan boxers, past and present.
