Alexander began boxing at a young age and quickly emerged as a standout performer in school competitions. Early highlights include gold medals at the LV Jayaweera and TB Jayah Boxing Meets in 1995, followed by victories at the Stubbs National School Games in 1996 and 1997. He was repeatedly recognized as Best Boxer at Junior National Championships and the XXIV and XXV National Sports Festivals, laying a strong foundation for his career. During his school years, Alexander also received multiple Sri Lanka School MILO Colours Awards, marking him as one of the nation's rising boxing talents. Following an illustrious competitive career, Alexander turned to coaching, earning an AIBA 1-Star International Coaching Certification in 2015. He has since nurtured young talent across schools and clubs, including:
