Mahinda Weerakoddy
Mahinda Weerakoddy stands as one of Sri Lanka's most respected and technically gifted boxers of the golden era. Between 1969 and 1973, he proudly held the title of National Boxing Champion, earning his place among the country's most outstanding pugilists. His refined technique and scientific approach to the sport earned him the reputation of being a "Scientific Boxer"-a title few achieved in that era.
In 1972, representing the Defense Services, Weerakoddy demonstrated exceptional skill, discipline, and sportsmanship, setting a high standard for others in the ring. His performances reflected not only his talent but also his deep understanding of boxing as both a sport and an art form
The pinnacle of his international career came in 1976, when he represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Games held in the Philippines, proudly carrying the nation's flag on one of the largest sporting stages in Asia. After his competitive years, Mahinda Weerakoddy continued to contribute to the sport he loved by turning to coaching. At Vidyartha College, Kandy, he dedicated himself to nurturing young talent and shaping future champions.
