Priantha Malavi

50 Years of Dedication to Sri Lankan Boxing

Priantha Malavi, a veteran in Sri a Lankan boxing, marks 50 years of outstanding service to the sport journey that began at Royal College, Colombo in the late 1960s under the guidance of Danton Obeyesekere and Ponnambalam Rajendran.

As Secretary (1972) and later Technical Advisor (1974) of the Royal College Boxing Team, Malavi played a pivotal role in leading the school to nine Stubbs Shield titles and numerous other championships between 1974 and 1994. His leadership and technical expertise helped shape generations of successful boxers.

Beyond coaching, he has been a founder life member and Treasurer of the Royal Boxing Club, and also served as Honorary Auditor for the Boxing Referees & Judges Association and the Sri Lanka Boxing Coaches Association. Malavi began officiating in 1982, becoming Sri Lanka's youngest referee at the time, and went on to enjoy a distinguished 30-year career as a respected referee and judge known for his fairness and professionalism. He is also recognized as a skilled boxing commentator and historian, lending his voice and knowledge to major national and international events, including the 2006 South Asian Games. Today, as a mentor and commentator, Priantha Malavi continues to inspire the boxing fraternity with his dedication, integrity, and passion -qualities that define his remarkable 50-year legacy in Sri Lankan boxing.
