U.A.T. Sumanapala
U.A.T. Sumapala is a respected figure in Sri Lankan boxing, celebrated both for his career as a Sri Lanka Army boxer and for his remarkable service as a coach. Serving in the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps as a Warrant Officer, he rendered yeoman service to his regiment and the sport. After proving his skill and discipline in the Army boxing ring, Sumapala transitioned into coaching with unwavering dedication. He was the pioneer who introduced boxing at St. John's College, Nugegoda, where he laid the foundation for a strong boxing program. Under his guidance, the school produced several top-class boxers who went on to excel at school meets, as well as on national and international stages. Renowned for his discipline, technical expertise, and ability to inspire, Sumapala not only built champions in the ring but also shaped young athletes into men of character and sportsmanship. The Ceylon Boxing Federation proudly recognizes the invaluable contributions of coaches like U.A.T. Sumapala, whose commitment and passion continue to strengthen the foundations of Sri Lankan boxing.
